Across our footprint: valuing connection
It has been another fantastic month across our footprint with a range of activities taking place, tailored to the needs of our consumers while valuing community connection and builing life skills. have a look at what some of our regions have been up to this month!!
Ingham: creativity and community in mental health month
Ingham consumers marked Mental Health Month with creative and reflective art projects.
A "Picnic with a Brush" event brought art into the community, as members painted rocks and placed them around Ingham to spread positivity.
Another highlight was an adventure to Abergowrie State Forest, where consumers explored trails on bikes and scooters before enjoying a swim and BBQ lunch!
Burdekin: building bonds through bowling and festivities
Burdekin Clubhouse members continue to build strong connections, with bowling becoming a popular weekly event.
Halloween added some spooky fun with a festive lolly jar, while the Blue Tree Project brought members together to creatively promote mental health awareness.
Looking forward, members can join a holiday craft club on November 21 to make custom Christmas decorations, and a Coffee Club meetup on November 14 at Silver Screens Cafe.
With Clubhouse membership on the rise, we’re excited to expand our team of Youth and Lifestyle Support Workers to support the growing community spirit in the Burdekin.
Bowen: wellness Wednesdays and mental health awareness
Bowen Clubhouse kicked off Wellness Wednesday with a relaxing yoga session at Queens Beach.
For Mental Health Week, members held an art exhibition and a cake drive, sharing creative expressions while supporting a good cause.
Members also enjoyed a day out at the Airlie Op Shops, followed by a lunch at the Lagoon.
Coming up, Senior Dietitian Hannah Graham will lead a meal planning session, and Soundwaves at the Sound Shell will bring the community together for a musical evening—everyone is encouraged to bring an instrument!
Mackay: growth through skill-building and creativity
It’s been a month of skill-building and growth in Mackay.
Weekly pottery classes led to a display of unique creations, highlighting the dedication and talent of members.
Two consumers also earned their Food Safety Certificates, an accomplishment made possible with support from selectability.
Members in the sewing class crafted their own aprons, which they’ll use in future cooking classes.
Sarina: expanding services and creative programs
With expanding services, Sarina is welcoming more members to a variety of activities each month.
Recent highlights included a visit to the peaceful Orchid House and Middle Creek Dam, gatherings at the Foodie Forum, and sewing sessions for skill-building.
New programs like bingo, tie-dying, and clay modeling have added fun and creativity, while the Food Forum provided a supportive space to learn about healthy cooking with fresh produce from the garden.
The Rhythm 2 Recovery drumming circles continue to foster connection, and the weekly Wellness Workshop offers mindfulness practices like yoga, journaling, and goal setting.
Moranbah: mental health outreach and festive fun
Moranbah selectability led a successful Mental Health Outreach Day in Dysart, bringing together groups like the Salvation Army, Hinterland Community Care, and Dysart Men’s Shed to promote mental health awareness and resources.
A free sausage sizzle, hosted in partnership with Dysart Men’s Shed, provided a welcoming space for community members to connect.
Drum therapy classes were also introduced, offering participants a way to relieve stress and express themselves through rhythm.
To celebrate Halloween, Moranbah held a coloring competition, with participants decorating spooky scenes and winning pizza vouchers from Dominos.
Rockhampton: fostering community and employee engagement
In Rockhampton, this month was filled with opportunities to connect and collaborate.
The LGBTQIA+ Community Workshop fostered inclusivity, while the CEO Employee Induction welcomed new staff members to the team.
A Team Builder Employee Breakfast brought the team together for a morning of camaraderie.
With the move to the new hub approaching, activities like Dungeons and Dragons sessions continue every Monday, and we’re excited to expand programming based on consumer interests.
