Addressing the challenges of remote service delivery: selectability purchases Gulfland Motel
When selectability took responsibility for three Lower Gulf residential aged care facilities in September 2023, the team was committed to overcoming the unique challenges involved in delivering high-quality services in remote communities.
A lack of suitable employee accommodation meant it was difficult to attract and retain the committed workforce required to deliver premium care to the older people living in the residential aged care facilities.
selectability’s Chief Operating Officer, Aaron Farrell said when the opportunity to purchase Gulfland Motel and Caravan Park arose, the benefits to the community and the organisation’s employees were clear.
"We believe that all regional Queenslanders deserve to access quality support regardless of age or location and this purchase is supporting us to deliver on this," said Aaron.
"The Gulfland provides sustainable, secure, quality accommodation for our employees so we are better placed to attract and retain a committed workforce.
"In turn this, will have a positive impact on the services we deliver and provides continuity to those we support."
The purchase of the iconic facility gives selectability a significant presence in the region and the potential to extend its service offering.
"Being embedded in the Normanton community will allow us to get a better understanding of the service gaps across the Lower Gulf and work collaboratively to address them."
Located at 11 Landsborough St, Normanton, the 1.56 ha land parcel comprises 28 self-contained accommodation rooms, a caravan park with 55 sites, a four-bedroom manager’s residence, and guest facilities including the ‘Big Barra’ tourist attraction, and a swimming pool. The Gulfland Motel and Caravan Park remains open to the public.
selectability is currently recruiting for a range of aged care positions in Normanton, Doomadgee and Mornington Island. You can find more information or apply here.
