Bowen services up and running

3 March 2022

It’s all systems go for selectability Bowen with local residents already accessing a range mental wellbeing support and services from our loca Mental Health Hub.

After securing a premises – 18 Herbert Street – late last year, Regional Coordinator Luana Land said things were progressing well with activities still running despite the renovation works going on.

“The building works are coming along nicely, currently we have three offices spaces and a boardroom being constructed, with air-conditioning and signage not far away,” said Luana.

“More excitingly a range of services are already running out of the premises and are available to individuals across the region looking for support for their mental wellbeing.

“Currently we have a range of services available including NDIS support coordination, Carer Gateway and general assistance with accessing the NDIS. All of which can be accessed by dropping into the Hub.

“Our psychosocial group programs have started and we have activities currently running Monday through to Thursday.”

The Bowen Mental Health Hub timetable currently offers four group activities – Listen to your Art, Coffee Break PLUS, Ask us How and Mindfulness Beach Walking.

Here is an overview of what to expect in the groups

Listen to your Art (9.30-11.30am) has seen us exploring our hidden talents or building on new skills while having conversations regarding ours and others perceptions and emotions of things we create and see.

Mindfulness Beach Walk (9am-10.30am) is designed to support a healthy lifestyle by getting our bodies moving, at a relaxed pace for all levels. It builds social connections and engages in health conversations with enjoying the beauty of Bowen’s beaches.

And it’s not just groups that have hit the ground running, selectability has recently hired four lifestyle support workers to assist consumers in Bowen.

“We have one support worker already that has started assisting with a range of services and individualised supports, while three others are in the process of being on-boarded.”

Luana encourages anyone interested in accessing the services of a lifestyle support worker to drop into the Hub to discuss options available, “that way we can than conduct an intake process should they want to access this services.”
