Buzzing entrepreneur: how Cody is building his business to help NDIS employment

For consumer Cody – no job has ever been too large, whether it be taking the steps to understand his NDIS plan through selectability’s support coordination or reaching his goals through individual support.

More recently, the Mount Isa local has been building his bee empire, farming and selling honey and bees wax all across the region.

Now, with the support of selectability, Cody now wants to grow his business to support NDIS consumers.

“I started in high school when we had learned about bee farming, and it just grew from there… it started with two hives and now I have a few hundred, around town.” said Cody.

“Now I sell things like honey, lip balms, moisturisers, furniture wax, so it is all going pretty good.

 “I really want to have my own property at some stage.”

From the construction of the hives, to packaging honey and wax, and to the moment they are sold at the local markets and businesses, Cody’s passion is the only thing that outweighs his work ethic.

Since starting with selectability, that passion has only grown.

“It has definitely helped me grow my business, I want to be able to learn to start selling products online, so it kind of teaches me things that I want to learn.

“It has helped my own personal growth too, which I know is important for the growth of my work, before that I would work to the point where I would just be far too stressed.

“It has shown me how I can make goals for my business as well, I would really like to sell in my own store some day.

Not only this, since starting on his NDIS plan, Cody has wanted to grow his business to support others in similar situations seek employment.

“I would really like my business to grow to a supportive and welcoming environment for those on the NDIS looking for work, because I know how hard that can be.

“And they can build new skills too, there is a lot of things to learn in the bee business, and having that environment would be great, especially here in Mount Isa.”

Cody’s bee business is not only a testament of passion, but a story of overwhelming growth toward a meaningful and selfless goals.
