Cairns BikeShed helps Noah get back on two wheels
For selectability BikeShed consumer Noah, his bike was more than just a way to get around — it was his lifestyle, his connection with his social life and his freedom.
Naturally, when it was stolen, he was devastated.
A regular at selectability’s Cairns BikeShed, Noah had spent countless hours learning to repair and maintain bikes under the guidance of coordinator Paul Liddiard.
When Paul heard what had happened, he knew he had to help.
“We believe that everyone should have access to a bike,” Paul said.
“It’s not just about transportation—it’s about freedom, independence, and having fun.
“When I heard one of our young people had his bike stolen, I knew we had to do something.”
Paul put out a call fora bike donation, and the community responded without hesitation.
Before long, a suitable bike arrived at the BikeShed, ready for a second chance.
As a part of the youth BikeShed program, Noah worked alongside Paul to repair and refurbish the bike, gaining new skills and a renewed sense of confidence along the way.
“I was so happy when Paul told me we could fix up a new bike,” Noah said.
“I love coming to the BikeShed, and Paul has taught me so much about how to look after my bike.”
Now, Noah is back on the road—riding with confidence and a fresh appreciation for the kindness of those around him.
His story is a testament to the power of community, the impact of generosity, and the difference the Cairns BikeShed continues to make in people’s lives.
