Cairns Mental Health Hub welcomes furry volunteer!

17 March 2022

It's no secret that dogs make excellent companions - but they are also great for our physical and mental health! They are fun to have around and simply patting a dog can provide a sense of security and reduce anxiety.

selectability Cairns recently welcomed a very special volunteer team member- Dexter! He heads up our unofficial 'emotional support dog team' (of one)!

As an emotional support dog, Dexter has an uncanny knack of knowing when someone needs some additional dog-company and enjoys receiving pats as his reward. He offers unconditional support and never fails to make those around him smile!

Dexter is a hit with the Cairns teams and our consumers are already benefiting from his presence. Some are now coming to the office and making appointments on the day that Dexter is in – just so they can see him!

Emotional support animals can be of great help to people living with mental health conditions and often help keep people grounded and enjoying the moment.
