selectability is a financially sound, not-for-profit, community mental wellbeing and suicide prevention service currently supporting the people and communities of northern, central and western Queensland.
While selectability is a new name we have been providing mental health services to regional Queenslanders for over 30 years. selectability was created in March 2017, following the merger of Supported Options in Lifestyle and Access Services (SOLAS) and Mental Illness Fellowship North Queensland (MIFNQ).
We are one of the largest regional providers in the mental health space, with over 230 employees and twelve outlets spread over seven regions. Our service extends from Cairns to Mackay, including Townsville (where head office is based), Charters Towers, Palm Island, Ingham and Mt Isa.
As one of the first organisations in Queensland to transition to NDIS, selectability has the knowledge and experience to support our consumers to obtain NDIS plans tailored to individual needs and goals. We have already helped more than 250 North Queenslanders with psychosocial disabilities access and implement an NDIS plan of their choice. We are experiencing significant and steady growth.
We are have several vacancies on our Board and are seeking nominations for the role of Director.
Director remuneration is currently under review. The Board meetings are held monthly, usually on the afternoon/evening of the final Tuesday of the month at selectability’s Head Office in Townsville. Consideration is being given to holding alternate face to face followed by teleconference meetings.
In the first instance the successful candidates will meet the following “role requirements”:
- have a genuine interest in the area of mental wellbeing and suicide prevention;
- National Police Check and meet Fit and Proper persons requirements;
- hold or be able to hold a Positive Notice Working With Children (Blue Card); and
- be able to commit the time and resources to carry out the role
Board experience, governance training and AICD membership would be highly regarded however selectability is committed to ongoing training for board members.
In the second instance the successful candidates will possess a minimum of at least one but preferably two of the following Required Competencies:
Clinical
Required Competency – hold relevant clinical qualifications (such as GP, psychiatrist, psychologist, mental health nurse, mental health OT etc). Experience in primary care or private practice roles would be an advantage.
Network
Required Competency – have a wide and influential network, be a respected voice and presence with the ability to influence key decision makers
Finance
Required Competency – hold a relevant degree and possess the ability to review and provide assistance with the organisations financial performance, financial reports and budgets and ensure the organisation is compliant with relevant Accounting Standards
Audit
Required Competency – hold a relevant degree and possess the ability to review and challenge the results of financial and other audit reports, ensure the organisations assets are protected and liaise effectively with the external auditor
Risk
Required Competency – hold a relevant degree and possess the ability to review and provide assistance in the identification and treatment of organisational risks (including WHS) and have the ability to assist the organisation identify emerging risks. Ensure management and mitigation programs are consistent with the Board’s determined appetite for risk.
Legal
Required Competency – hold a relevant degree and possess the ability to review/challenge and provide support to the organisations legal and contractual requirements
HR
Required Competency – hold a relevant degree and possess the ability to support the organisation become a “truly great place to work” whilst assisting the organisation identify current or emerging HR risks and avoid any major industrial relation issues
Marketing
Required Competency – hold a relevant degree and possess the ability to support the organisation increase brand awareness and social media presence with a focus on financially viable increased market share and increasing the organisations footprint
