CEO & GM meet with Minister to address issues with worker screening process

2 June 2021

selectability CEO Debra Burden and General Manager – Townsville Sally Bawden, yesterday met with The Hon Craig Crawford, Minister for Seniors and Disability Services to discuss the impacts employee screening processes are having on the organisation’s consumers, employees and operations in general.

The NDIS worker screening check replaced the previous Yellow Card system and the new rules are causing delays in processing meaning employees are unable to start work, leaving consumers without vital support.

Debra Burden welcomed the meeting with Minister Crawford and said she hoped they would be able come to a fast resolution so that the most vulnerable members of our community can access the support they need.

“selectability exists to improve the mental wellbeing of regional Queenslanders and delays in mandatory processes are impacting our ability to achieve our purpose,” said Ms Burden

“Our meeting with Minister Crawford and his team was very productive and together we proposed some solutions to address the issues.

“One option suggested was the potential for the Government to introduce a “probation/or Provisional Blue card for people who would currently be classified as ineligible for clearance as a result of past incidents.”
