World Suicide Prevention Day: Charters Towers Mental Health Hub to hold community event
This World Suicide Prevention Day local mental wellbeing not-for-profit, selectability, is inviting the Charters Towers community in to meet the team and learn about its many programs and services that contribute to suicide prevention.
Suicide rates in regional Queensland are 1.5 times higher than the national average and the impacts are far-reaching.
selectability Regions GM, Ryan Wiggins, said communities played a crucial role in suicide prevention and he encouraged locals to visit the Mental Health Hub to connect and learn about programs, services and resources to help improve mental wellbeing.
“Suicide is a complex issue that affects many regional Queenslanders,” said Mr Wiggins.
“There are many protective factors that can build resilience and contribute to suicide prevention.
“At selectability we offer programs and services designed to reduce isolation, create social and community connections and help individuals develop a sense of purpose.
“While we are inviting the Charters Towers community to join the team for lunch, information sessions and activities this World Suicide Prevention Day, it is important to note that the doors of our Mental Health Hub are always open.”
“If anyone is in need of support, please call the Hub or drop in to see the team. You don’t need an appointment and we can help connect you to the services you need.”
The community event will be held on Friday 10 September 2021 between 11 and 1 at the selectability Mental Health Hub, 37 Ryan St. Lunch will be provided and you can join in one of the group activities. All welcome.
