Improving mental wellbeing through education
Housing, employment, relationships, finances and physical health all influence a person’s mental health and wellbeing; that’s why the Mackay Mental Health Hub partners with key organisations to deliver workshops designed to educate and empower individuals.
This year the Mental Health Hub has collaborated with other services to deliver workshops on a range of topics including financial literacy and budgeting, health and physical wellbeing, independent living, work readiness and mental wellbeing.
Mental Health Hub Care Navigator, Stacy Irwin said the workshops had been so popular that they have had to add more to the program to meet the demand.
“Partnering with local services means that we can deliver workshops on a range of topics to meet our consumers’ needs and suit their interests,” said Stacy.
“Educating consumers on a key topics around healthy, independent living empowers them to take control of their own mental wellbeing and get a good understanding of the support services that are available to them in the community.”
“Our collaborative psychoeducational workshops are always very popular and provide a range of benefits to our consumers and our community including promoting social inclusion, personal growth and providing tools to develop resilience.”
The workshops also support Mental Health Hub consumers to navigate complex, and often overwhelming health systems and allow for ‘warm’ referrals to new services.
The Mental Health Hub is open to adults seeking support for their mental wellbeing – no referral is required.
