Meet the team: Evelyn Capewell
It’s Women’s Health Week! Australia’s largest event dedicated to the health and wellbeing of all women, girls and gender-diverse people.
We have taken this opportunity to highlight some our employees who are dedicated to the positive wellbeing of others through their roles.
Meet Evelyn! For the last 12 months, she has been working for selectability in Charters Towers – most recently as the team leader, clubhouse.
Through her role, Evelyn manages the operation of the Clubhouse; monitoring and assisting in group activities, attending and supporting consumers at their appointments and stakeholder meetings.
“I also regularly support and work closely with Carer Gateway, assist with Queensland Police Service referrals and other community mental health providers,” Evelyn said.
“It is a great job; I love helping our consumers reach their goals.
“Small or big it doesn't matter, it's just great to see their happy smiling faces and celebrations when they have reached a goal.”
Born and raised in Charters Towers, Evelyn comes from a background of talented singers!
“I definitely did not get their talents at all.”
Having lived in rural parts of the state, she eventually settled down with her 6 children in her hometown of Charters Towers, where her own personal journey led her to selectability.
“The fantastic support selectability gave me when I needed it the most, made me want to work for them and share my journey and new skills.
“I have been constantly empowered by the people I work with and by my family and being Women’s Health Week I have done a lot of reflecting of the ladies in my life.
“Like my grandmother, or the people I have had the pleasure to work alongside, our wonderful regional coordinator, Lisa, previous regional coordinator Sue-Ellen or my daughter Rikki-Leigh.
“In light of this week, I think it is important to recognise women like that who promote the positive wellbeing of others on a daily basis, as well as recognising their own.””
