Meet the team: Grant Westthorp
Meet Grant - selectability's Well Man Coordinator. He joined selectability two months ago - after the Well Man app and website were gifted to us from the Men's Resource Centre in West Australia.
Initially charged with promoting the free app, Grant said his role had opened up to include recruiting men from across our diverse regional Queensland footprint to become Well Man representatives and advocates.
"There are big plans in place for the future of Well Man selectability. In addition to endorsing regional Queensland men to become spokesmen we will be launching the Well Man Life Promotion project.
"This project encourages men to take responsibility for their lives by adopting positive living habits.
“People often ask me ‘Why only men?’ The focus for Well Man is only men because women have access to many more dedicated resources in the mental health and suicide prevention sector.
“Statistics reveal the sad plight for men regarding suicide, heart disease, industrial accidents and finally women live on average 6 years longer than men.
“When delivering Well Man Life Promotion presentations all genders are welcome to attend as women are a conduit to a man whether it be a son, partner or father.”
Grant moved to Cairns from WA just over two years ago and believes he has found the perfect fit in selectability.
"I love working for selectability as it aligns with my values.
"It also gives me an opportunity to leave a legacy for men in regional Queensland - which has been my home for the past 26 months."
