Meet the team: Hayley Berry
Meet Hayley, our new Support Coordinator and Psychosocial Recovery Coach for the Mackay region.
As a Support Coordinator and Psychosocial Recovery Coach, Hayley works to educate and support consumers to understand and gain the most out of their NDIS plan.
Hayley who hails from the Sunshine Coast made the transition to the community services and mental health sectors from a diverse working background in environmental compliance and management.
“I held a variety of positions prior to starting with selectability as a Lifestyle Support Worker. I had been working as a National Park Ranger and Assistance Dog Trainer for children with special needs,” said Hayley
“I trained dogs to cater for the needs of an individual child, working with families that have children with autism, ADHD, epilepsy and anxiety.”
Recently completing a graduate certificate in psychology, Hayley has found the skills and theories she learned to be extremely beneficial in her role.
“The graduate certificate really broadened my knowledge base and I have been able to put the theory into action.”
To continue developing her knowledge and skillset Hayley is now keeping herself busy studying counselling.
Working with consumers with NDIS plans, Hayley assists them to access community and government services to ensure that they are reaching their goals.
“My job is all about empowering people and supporting them to enhance their quality of life.”
As a psychosocial recovery coach Hayley works to support those with a psychosocial disability.
A psychosocial disability can impact the way a person thinks, feels or interacts with others and can prevent them from fully participating in life but thanks to a tailored NDIS service, coaching is available to help people manage the complexities of day-to-day living.
Psychosocial recovery coaches support individuals with psychosocial disability to recognise, reflect and take responsibility of their own recovery.
“In my role I work collaboratively with individuals, their families, carers and other services to design and implement a recovery plan and help with the coordination of other NDIS supports
“Having coaching support available specifically for people who live with mental illness means we are able to make life easier to navigate and help consumers understand and access services that will get them closer to their goals,” explained Hayley.
Hayley joins the established NDIS service delivery team located in Mackay in delivering much-needed services in her local community.
“If you are in the Mackay region and need support, get in touch with us so we can work with you to get the most out of our NDIS plan.”
