Meet the Team: Joanne Leonard
Meet Joanne! She has been with selectability for eight months and plays a key role in leading the Rockhampton team.
As Regional Coordinator, she oversees NDIS service delivery and community-supported residentials while also representing selectability at meetings and building relationships with the local community.
Over the last couple of months, Jo has been coordinating the team’s move to Rockhampton’s brand new, purpose-built mental health hub, and ensuring the operational transition has gone smoothly.
“It’s really exciting to be able to deliver on selectability’s commitment to regional Queenslanders, ensuring they have access to high-quality mental health services locally,” said Jo.
“The new Mental Health Hub has space to support a range of activities and services.
“We have open areas for group programs, consulting rooms, a commercial kitchen and a large outdoor space.
“This wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the Resource Community Infrastructure fund – very a really grateful for this generous support.”
Originally from Longreach, Joanne is a proud Iningai woman and one of six daughters. “My mum was and continues to be my inspiration,” said Joanne.
“Even though she has passed, her influence is with me every day.
With a background in education and disability care, Joanne has previously worked as a director in the childcare industry and as a home site supervisor, managing three 24/7 disability homes.
“I have a passion for helping and supporting the vulnerable people in our community.
“I love seeing the positive results selectability has achieved.
“The support and guidance from the corporate and management team is above and beyond, and everyone here truly lives by selectability’s values.”
Through her role, Joanne has learned just how powerful teamwork can be.
“Teamwork is the dream work, and everyone works alongside each other to achieve positive results.
Outside of work, Joanne enjoys spending time with family, cooking, reading, music, and meditation.
Jo is looking forward to providing the community to the new mental health hub at the official opening event on 12 February from 11am. It’s a free event with all welcome – you can still register at selectability.com.au/Rockhampton.
If you can’t make it the event will be live streamed – you can watch it here.
