Meet the team: Kate Cathcart
Meet Kate – our practice supervisor based in Cairns.
Originally from NSW, Kate has called Far North Qld home for many years and wouldn’t trade its tropical charm for anywhere else.
As a Practice Supervisor, Kate supports employees in reflecting on their practices, helping them to grow and develop in their roles, and determine strategies for best supporting our consumers.
“We aim to create an environment where everyone can learn and grow together to deliver something life-changing for the people we support,” said Kate.
Kate brings 14 years of experience with not-for-profits, spanning frontline and management roles.
Her career began in Sydney’s western suburbs, where she supported refugees, newly arrived migrants, and asylum seekers.
Over the years, she has overseen transitional housing, crisis support, and emergency relief programs, including six years with the Salvation Army in Atherton Tablelands and Central West, NSW.
Kate joined selectability as a lifestyle support worker before stepping into her current role.
“I love being able to encourage workers through the tough times and I have so much joy when I see empathy and compassion alongside a willingness to develop and evolve.
“We can all progress together to deliver something life changing to our consumers.
“This is work worth doing.”
Ahead of the festive season, Kate has told us one of the most important lessons she has learned in her role:
“It’s crucial not to move too fast when supporting people.”
She also advises those considering a career in the sector to prioritise boundaries, integrity, and self-care:
“It protects everyone.”
Outside of work, Kate is an animal lover, hiker, board game enthusiast, and even a bungee jumper!
She’s also a self-proclaimed Excel fanatic! saying, “Excel is my happy place.”
Kate is passionate about making a positive impact in across selectability and the communities we support, and we’re proud to have her as part of the team!
Our comprehensive practice supervision is just one of the many frameworks and tools selectability has in place to support the wellbeing of our workforce.
