Meet the team: Matthew Julien

24 March 2025

Seeking a career change from the finance sector, Matt joined selectability 18 months ago as a quality and compliance officer in Townsville.

Since then, he has become an integral part of the team, and attributes the skill of empathy and understanding to quality care and meaningful outcomes for recipients.

With a strong background in the finance and body corporate sector, Matt’s composed, and confident demeanor has made him a strong asset to the organisation.

As a part of his role, Matt ensures that selectability has in place best practice processes and procedures so that our recipients receive high quality supports across services and programs.

“I love seeing how passionate our staff are about the work they do. As a quality officer I have had the privilege of seeing many offices, clubhouses, mental health hubs across our footprint,” said Matt.

“Seeing the passion our employees bring to the door every day to support our recipients is extraordinary.”

Matt plays an instrumental part in ensuring our activities are delivered in line with the Human Services Quality Framework, which focuses on Queensland Government-funded programs like clubhouses, and selectwellbeing.

“As a large organisation, it is important that we operate in line with relevant laws, regulations, and licensing requirements, which is what my role is responsible for.

“I am also responsible for monitoring selectability’s adherence to these policies and procedures and identifying potential risks.”

In his role, Matt welcomes both positive and negative feedback and sees it as a powerful tool for growth, helping to strengthen systems and enhance care.

“Quality isn’t static; it’s an ongoing process of learning, adapting, and refining services to better meet the needs of recipients.

“True quality improvement starts with listening to recipients and ensuring their voices shape service delivery.”

Outside of his day-to-day role, Matt enjoys fishing, being outdoors, travelling, and spending time with his family and friends, which he describes as a key to maintaining positivity in both work and life.

“I am a big believer of separating work and life, I find the best way to manage this is to limit the exposure to work (emails, phones, etc.) when outside of working hours and being present.”

For anyone looking for a career change into the community services sector and wanting to do something different and meaningful, Matt’s journey is a perfect example of the impact made behind-the-scenes in a corporate services division of a values-based organisation.

selectability's corporate services division is growing! The team is currently recruiting for more than 15 roles across all functions.
