Meet the Team: Renee Backer
We are thrilled to introduce Renee Backer, the new regional coordinator for selectability in Richmond!
This marks an exciting milestone as we expand our services into the region, including the recent establishment of our wellbeing hub.
With her deep connection to the community and a passion for making a difference, Renee is set to create tailored programs that support wellbeing across the Richmond area, as well as building a strong and empowered local workforce.
“My role as regional coordinator involves working closely with stakeholders to implement and promote access to programs that support the wellbeing of our community,” said Renee.
“Having been born and raised in Richmond, I understand the unique barriers and challenges people face, and I’m thrilled to provide opportunities to support their wellbeing.”
Renee brings a wealth of experience from her career in early childhood education and care, including her previous role as director of a childcare centre in Richmond.
“Through that role, I found my passion for advocating for early intervention and equal access for rural and remote children and families,” she shared.
Renee says the best part of her job are the endless possibilities to engage with and support the community.
“Richmond is a beautiful town with some of the most incredible sunsets.
“I love the lack of traffic, our one little roundabout, and how our community never hesitates to band together during times of need.”
She was inspired to join selectability after seeing the position advertised and realising how perfectly it aligned with her personal values.
“At first, I was hesitant, but when my manager said, ‘Oh no, you’re leaving us—you’d be perfect for the role,’ that gave me the final push to apply,” Renee said.
When asked what advice she’d give to others considering a role in the sector, Renee emphasised the importance of genuine care and advocacy.
“Ensure your values align.
“This sector requires compassion and a commitment to meeting consumers’ needs. If your heart is in the right place, you’ll fit right in.”
Outside of work, Renee describes herself as an enthusiastic person who loves learning and embracing creativity in all its forms.
selectability is excited to see the positive impact Renee will make as she helps establish our presence in Richmond.
Stay tuned for updates on the programs and services coming to the region!
