Meet the Team: Robert Lemmey

With a career spanning decades and a deep-rooted commitment to his community, Rob Lemmey brings a lifetime of experience to his role as a lifestyle support worker in Cairns.

Originally from South Australia, Rob has called Cairns home for the past ten years. His background is as diverse as it is hands-on—after 37 years as a truck driver, including 20 full-time, and volunteering as a firefighter for 25 years, he made the decision to shift gears and step into the community services sector.

“I’ve always been community-minded,” Rob said.

“I wanted a career where I could really help people, and this was the right move.”

In his role, Rob supports individuals in gaining access to the community, helping them build confidence and independence.

Though he’s only been with selectability for a short time, he’s already embraced the challenge and is constantly learning.

“There are so many different types of disabilities and levels of support needed,” he said.

“It’s been eye-opening, but also really rewarding.”

His advice for anyone considering a similar path is simple: give it a go.

When he’s not working, you’ll likely find Rob jamming to Def Leppard or on the AFL field—not as a player, but as an umpire, keeping the game alive in Cairns.
