Meet the team: Simone Oehm
Meet Simone! She has been working for selectability in the Cairns region since 2020 – most recently in the role of team leader, direct services.
Along with coaching and supporting lifestyle support workers, Simone oversees the delivery of NDIS supports to more than 250 consumers in the region.
“I often spend my time building rapport and relationships with consumers to understand their needs… I have a lot of experience in working with people,” Simone said.
“It has taught me to actively listen, understand body language, and understand information in a comfortable and friendly manner.”
An extensive task, yet extremely necessary to effectively deliver best practice services, and Simone enjoys every minute.
“Every day is rewarding and different!
“I love working with consumers and meeting their needs, and the challenges that come with that.”
More recently, selectability highlighted a story of consumer Josh, who completed his Cert III in business, and already has his eyes firmly set on his next venture; Simone was an active player in Josh reaching his goals, arranging his course with providers and organising new modules to complete!
It’s stories like Josh’s that demonstrate Simone’s reasoning for joining selectability more than 3 years ago.
“My personal awareness of how mental illness impacts the quality of day-to-day living, prompted me to apply for the role as lifestyle support worker with selectability.
“After researching how I could give back, I discovered selectability is a leader in providing mental health supports, this is something I wanted to be part of.”
In her time at selectability, Simone has taken advantage of the organisation’s defined career progression pathway, starting as a lifestyle support worker, moving to consumer service officer on on to her current leadership role.
When she’s not at work, Simone enjoys spending time outside being active with her two children, and two dogs.
