Meet the team: the dogs of Mornington Island
Meet Daisy, Fabio and Maloo! They have been the resident guardians/good pups for Kuba Natha Hostel; our residential aged care facility in Mornington Island; for quite some time.
selectability has been delivering aged care services in the Lower Gulf for the last six months, working with the local communities to support the needs of aged care residents and their families.
The three furry friends are welcome additions in Kuba Natha Hostel, regularly providing entertainment and security to residents, they are often rewarded with full bellies and infinite pats.
“The residents interact with them all the time, which is great, they have grown up on an island where dogs are prominent and sacred, they are therapeutic for us as well,” enrolled nurse Morgan said.
Maloo
Introducing Maloo! arguably the leader of the three (or as some refer to her as - the Chief Woof Officer), she often spends her time keeping her friends in line.
“She is cool calm and collected, definitely the mumma of the group, very laid back as she is older in age.
“She doesn’t tend to wander very far either which is good, very happy in and around the space here, a bit of a lazy bug.
Whether it be lounging in the sun on the warm grass or curled up on a chair out of the rain, there is no doubt that Maloo has found a happy home, and great company.
Fabio
The character of the three, Fabio is often cited as the entertainer of the three, his acrobatic ability and various makeshift sleeping spots are notable to his character.
“His favorite move is putting his hind legs up on the wall and showing off to anyone that will watch.
“It is nice to have Fabio and the others coming to the gate when we arrive saying ‘you are here this morning!’ so it is good.
The Mastiff holds no shame in protecting the boundaries, and relishes in the large space around the grounds, where he can run and play with his best mate Daisy.
Daisy
Although she may be a little nervous around new visitors initially, Daisy is just as charismatic and fun as her offsider Fabio.
The docile pup will often spend her days zooming around the boundary and play fighting with the other dogs, equally as happy to call Kuba Natha Hostel home.
“We always treat our dogs with the same amount of respect as our residents, it is just the way it goes here.
“They love us just as much as we love them, residents and employees included, and they are so well mannered, it is nice to have them here.”
