Moranbah Mental Health Hub promoting community connection

9 November 2023

Moranbah’s Mental Health Hub has once again proven to be a community asset, promoting the wellbeing of mothers.

Since opening in July 2023, selectability has provided access to services to Moranbah that has previously been unavailable.

In addition to providing a vital service, the facility also serves as a central location for other community services, more recently the Kanga Training program.

The training provides cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength to mothers through a series of workouts.

Classes are designed by women’s health physiotherapists, midwives and babywearing consultants to provide a postnatal safe exercise.

Regional Coordinator for Moranbah and Sarina, Keri Webster said that opening doors for groups to deliver wellbeing programs has a largely beneficial outcome for wellbeing of the Moranbah community.

“Not only are these programs a great opportunity for mums and bubs who are usually quite isolated in this town to get together and do some fun exercise,” said Keri.

“The ability to host services like Kanga Training here bought in a new range of people who all seemed interested in the services and programs we offer through selectability.

“We have received a great number of enquiries as we continue our three-year plan to build community resilience, promote mental health awareness and improve help seeking behaviour across the region.

“When we first entered the region we conducted extensive research consultation,

“We found that 89 per cent of respondents believed there was a need for a dedicated facility and programs locally.

“What we are seeing now; through our own service delivery and opening our doors to the community use; is that need in action.”

selectability is currently delivering a range of diverse programs that promote mental wellbeing, tailored to Moranbah locals. You can find more information about this here.
