New program supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of regional Queenslanders
As part of our commitment to improving the mental wellbeing of regional Queenslanders, selectability is rolling out a new mental health education program to be delivered in local communities.
The program ‘social and emotional wellbeing’ is designed to help people understand and manage emotions and better cope during stressful periods.
Counsellor and special projects manager Suz Bocking said social and emotional wellbeing was vital to our overall health and helped people to cope with the challenges of everyday life.
“The choices we make and the thoughts we think have a big impact on our overall wellbeing," said Suz.
“Our social and emotional wellbeing program is designed to provide people with practical tools and strategies to help them manage stress and make positive choices to achieve a happy, healthy life.
“The program is for anyone wanting to improve their coping skills and enjoy more meaningful connections with others.
“It’s really helpful for those who have recently had additional stress or are in a challenging times and want to learn how to adjust their mindset.
“It can also be useful for those experiencing strained relationships and feelings of loneliness or isolation.”
Running as a four week group program, social and emotional wellbeing was developed by selectability’s mental health professionals and in line with the needs of consumers.
“Wellbeing is multidimensional – just focusing on good health, for example, won’t ensure that your relationships or your mental health are good," said Suz.
“We have many areas of health and in this program we explore social and emotional wellbeing and ways to improve them for a more fulfilling satisfying life."
You don’t need a referral* - selectability’s Mental Health Hubs have open door policies and welcome anyone looking for support to improve their mental wellbeing.
The program starts in Townsville on Monday 8 August - download the flyer HERE
(*Please note: during the intake process we will determine if eligibility requirements are met and participants must be 18 years and older)
