New program to improve mental wellbeing in Sarina
As part of our commitment to improving the mental wellbeing of regional Queenslanders, selectability is inviting Sarina residents to get involved in a new mental health outreach program.
Set to make a positive impact in the local community, ‘Watercolours & Wellness’ has been designed to give individuals an opportunity to learn about practicing self-care and improving wellbeing.
Regional Coordinator for Sarina, Keri Webster said the program was open to those looking to develop skills for managing stress and making positive life choices.
“Watercolours and Wellness offers a supportive environment for growth and learning and focuses on the important role of social and emotional wellbeing in overall health,” Keri said.
“The session is also an opportunity for locals to find out about the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and what is involved in applying.”
Delivered weekly, the program encourages consumers to explore their creative side through a range of activities under the guidance of a facilitator.
Keri highlights the multi-dimensional nature of wellbeing, emphasising the need to address various health aspects for a fulfilling life.
“Wellbeing has many sides - taking care of your mental health gives you the energy to work with meaning and purpose towards a goal.”
Looking to the future of the program, Keri hopes ‘Watercolours & Wellness’ grows over time and provides a safe space for everyone to enjoy.
"For me, the biggest thing is about community and belonging. And it's about building those networks that support us," Keri said.
“To be able to provide the people of Sarina with access to these much-needed services will be really positive step forward in improving mental wellbeing and contributing to suicide prevention.
“In everything we do, we hope to make it easier for regional Queenslanders to look after themselves and reach out if they need support.”
Blending creativity and self-expression, the program will focus on fostering helpful discussions on self-care and wellness. The two-hour session gives participants the opportunity to enquire about vital services and receive insights into navigating the NDIS.
Whether it's understanding eligibility criteria, exploring support options, the selectability team will be on hand to answer any questions.
“If you're a Sarina local or in the area, come and join us at Anzac Square Park. We’ll provide the supplies– all you have to bring is yourself,” Keri said.
Sessions will run every Thursday starting on 2 May from 10am. Contact the selectability team at mackay@selectability.com.au for further information.
