selectability celebrates official opening of Rockhampton Mental Health Hub
Rockhampton residents can now access a range of vital mental wellbeing services as leading provider selectability today officially opens the doors to its Mental Health Hub.
As one of the first of its kind across the region, the Mental Health Hub provides a range of NDIS and government funded services to improve the mental wellbeing of individuals and contribute to suicide prevention in Rockhampton.
selectability CEO, Debra Burden said they had been approached many times over recent years to provide services in Rockhampton due to a lack of community mental health services and they were delighted to address this unmet need with the opening of the Mental Health Hub.
“We are committed to improving the mental wellbeing of regional Queenslanders so opening a Mental Health Hub in Rockhampton has been an important step for us.
“We pride ourselves on providing services that are flexible and tailored to the needs of the people and communities we support,” said Ms Burden.
Rockhampton local, Shirley, said her son had not been able to gain the full value of his NDIS plan because the region was lacking the services he needed to achieve his goals.
“As a carer I felt very overwhelmed attempting to support my son to use his NDIS plan,” said Shirley.
“We would have had to travel considerable distances to get my son to appointments and connect him to the services he needed to get the most out of his NDIS plan and live more independently.
“Now that selectability is delivering services in Rockhampton we have access to this important support locally.
“Without the added hassle of travel my son has more time to work towards his goals. He has only been with selectability a short time and I can already see the progress.”
Local GP and well known mental health advocate, Dr Ramita Sharma, welcomed the opening of the Mental Health Hub and selectability’s commitment to improving the mental wellbeing of the Rockhampton community.
The Mental Health Hub, located at 2/233 Musgrave Street, North Rockhampton.
