selectability Corner ... officially open!
Queensland Mental Health Commissioner, Ivan Frkovic, today officially opened our new mental health hub 'selectability Corner' at an event attended by more than 150 people.
The community-managed hub provides a range of non-clinical mental wellbeing services for those seeking support across the Townsville-region.
Mr Frkovic said community mental health services were a valued and valuable part of the mental health system that provided practical outcomes for individuals.
“Good mental health and wellbeing is important to ensure that all Queenslanders can realise their potential,” said Mr Frkovic.
“I welcome initiatives like selectability’s Mental Health Hub and recognise the important role they play in improving mental wellbeing across our communities.”
selectability CEO Debra Burden said they had been operating in Townsville for more than 40 years but due to growth and demand it was time to create a more central facility to better respond to community need.
“We are committed to ensuring services are available where people need them,” said Ms Burden.
"The move to our new more prominent location is also about ensuring residents have access to complementary services locally.
“We offer support at every level and we have great referral partners across the community.
“We want to ensure that as many people as possible reach out for the support they may need.”
The Mental Health Hub offers more than 10 different group programs run across 20 sessions throughout the week. Referrals are not required.
