selectability opens Mackay Mental Wellbeing Practice
Mackay residents can now connect with a range of mental wellbeing services within The Dome with the launch yesterday of a new practice.
The Mental Wellbeing Practice provides access to a range of services to support individuals, their families and carers.
selectability CEO, Debra Burden said the organisation had been providing mental wellbeing services to the region for many years under its former name, Mental Illness Fellowship of NQ, and bringing the services together meant that Mackay consumers could access the support they needed at each stage of their recovery.
“At selectability we believe that everyone deserves to have access to the right support when they need it,” she said.
“This Medicare bulk-billed practice means that we are able to provide support to people for no out-of-pocket expense.
“We opened our first Mental Wellbeing Practice in Townsville in January and we are delighted to open our second here in Mackay.”
The Mental Wellbeing Practice offers a range of individual and group support services; psychology and counselling; family and carer support including the Ice Help project; along with the coordination and implementation of the region’s suicide prevention network; and the Horizon Clubhouse (located around the corner in Wood St).
Mackay Mayor Greg Williamson welcomed the opening of the practice.
“It is great to see a holistic approach to the delivery of important mental wellbeing services,” said Cr Williamson.
“Often people don’t know where to start when seeking help for a mental health condition.
“Having a range of services delivered from the one practice takes away the stress of dealing with multiple providers.”
selectability is a not-for-profit mental wellbeing and suicide prevention service and one of North Queensland’s leading NDIS providers for people with mental illness.
The Mental Wellbeing Practice, located in The Dome, will be open from 8.30 – 4.30pm five days a week. For an appointment call 4951 2973 or drop into the practice.
