Regional Queensland Expansion Plan - Mackay Milestone

selectability's Regional Queensland Expansion Plan

New Mackay Role Marks Milestone

Ensuring more regional Queenslanders receive the services and support they need and deserve will be the motivation behind selectability’s first Mackay-based General Manager, Chris Attard.

selectability is a leading provider of mental wellbeing and suicide prevention funded programs and services and NDIS services and support across North, Far North and Western Queensland.

Mackay born and bred, Mr Attard is the first to step into the newly created Mackay GM role and says he hopes to help selectability make a difference to more people’s lives.

“selectability has a very strong reputation of delivering fantastic and vital services in an area of absolute need in our community,” Mr Attard said.

“My role is to lead the local team and together work to increase our presence in Mackay to enable us to reach and help more people.

“The lack of mental wellbeing and health services in general in regional Queensland and across regional Australia has been well talked about.

“Unfortunately, a lot of services seem to gravitate towards the big cities, but there are still people in need in regional areas, maybe not in the same volumes, but they are still people in need.

“The mental health sector is not an easy area to be delivering services into, the people who work in and around those with mental health issues I think are phenomenal people in their own rights.

“If it weren’t for organisations like selectability, regional people would continue to go without adequate services and support, so I’m excited to be part of the team.”

Mr Attard brings an extensive commercial management skill set to the role including 10 years’ experience in the for-profit health sector plus two more working with a Mental Health NGO.

selectability CEO Debra Burden said Mr Attard’s appointment was part of the organisation’s regionalisation policy which has seen it appoint General Managers in each of its three key locations, being Townville, Mackay & Cairns.

“Our goal is always to improve the mental wellbeing of regional Queenslanders and champion suicide prevention initiatives,” Ms Burden said.

“We want to help more regional people in more ways, and to do that we would like to grow by expanding our services and our physical footprint, as well as by working more closely with other existing service providers in the regions.

“Chris shares our same passion for helping people and has the experience to drive those organisational priorities forward in Mackay, so we are very pleased to welcome him to the selectability team.
