Wadda Mooli

Crisis support

Wadda Mooli is delivered through a partnership between selectability and the Townsville Hospital and Health Service and provides urgent non-clinical support for people presenting to the Townsville University Hospital emergency department (ED) in emotional distress and crisis.

What is Wadda Mooli?

Wadda Mooli means ‘Welcome’ in the language of Townsville’s First Nations people; the Bindal people.

Wadda Mooli is a welcome space which provides urgent non-clinical support for people in emotional distress and crisis.

Sometimes our worries, stresses and life experiences can become overwhelming, and we need to take time out to reset or talk to someone.

Wadda Mooli is staffed by two peer workers with support from a mental health clinician.

You may choose to use your time in the space to:

  • speak to a peer worker
  • have quiet time to reflect
  • share your experiences
  • find resources.

How peer workers assist

Peer workers are people who have had their own experience of distress and use lessons learnt to support others in times of crisis. Peer workers will:

  • listen without judgement
  • share their our own journey and how they got through challenges
  • teach strategies to reduce stress and anxiety
  • provide information about specialist services available in the community.

What to expect

The space has been specifically designed to be safe, calm and peaceful. It includes:

  • lounge chairs
  • outdoor area
