Tips for getting the most out of your NDIS plan
At selectability we appreciate the unique pathway each individual has travelled to achieve their NDIS plan. That’s why we go the extra mile and think outside of the square to ensure people’s plans are working for them.
To help you get the most out of your NDIS budget, our support coordination team leaders, Kate and Odette, share their top five tips.
1. Make sure your support coordinator is the right fit for you
It’s really important that your support coordinator is right for you. They should work with you to understand your needs and goals and determine how your funds can be best used to achieve them. A great support coordinator will work with you to build your capacity and bring your NDIS plan to life!
2. Check in on your plan usage
Schedule three, six and nine month reviews with your support coordinator or Local Area Coordinator. This will help to ensure that your plan is on track and funding is being spent on working towards your goals.
3. Make sure you collate progress reports
Work with your support coordinator or Local Area Coordinator to gather evidence from your funded supports such as support agencies and therapists. This can help optimise your NDIS plan at your next review.
4. Know your local area and what’s available in your community
Your support coordinator can help you find out what supports and services are available within the community that may be helpful in achieving the goals you’ve set out in your NDIS plan. This could be men’s shed, community centres or local events, special interest classes or groups.
5. Use your funding to work for you
Work with your support coordinator to use your funding to it’s full capacity - they can help you to think creatively about the services available to get you closer to your goals. Discuss your options to go agency managed, plan managed or self-managed which may offer more alternatives and flexibility.
