Townsville consumers learning cooking is as easy as 1-2-3!

29 March 2022

selectability Mental Health Hub consumers in Townsville are learning that cooking does not need to be a long arduous process, using lots of fancy ingredients – in fact it is as easy as 1-2-3!

Easy-Peasy cooking group encourages consumers to get hands-on and learn budget friendly recipes and cooking skills.

As Life Coach Ashlee explains the group has been well-received and has already achieved some positive outcomes for our consumers.

“I have definitely noticed some great improvements in those coming to easy-peasy cooking,” said Ashlee.

“We have consumers who are too afraid to participate in fear of doing something wrong the first time they come along that progress to feeling confident to participate fully.”

Cooking can, like art, be used as a form of therapy and also education. In easy-peasy cooking consumers learn not only about food and nutrition but also about making affordable easy meals.

“Consumers are learning other skills including patience, how to work collaboratively in a group environment and the practice of mindfulness.”

A study published in the journal of positive psychology found that people who often take on small creative projects such as cooking reported feeling more relaxed and happier in their day-to-day lives.

“This is definitely something you can see in our consumers,” said Ashlee.

“Cooking works to help raise self-esteem and feelings of accomplishment. After the group consumers leave feeling satisfied that they have achieved a goal for the day.”
