Townsville, let's chalk about mental health
The event encourages people to write and draw their positive messages of hope and remembrance in chalk to raise awareness and start conversations around mental wellbeing and suicide prevention.
selectability Chief Operating Officer, Aaron Farrell said they were pleased to be hosting a community event again after COVID-19 changed how last year’s event ran.
“This year we’re returning to The Strand, and we would love Townsville residents to join us in chalking our messages of hope, love and resilience,” said Mr Farrell.
“Mental health has traditionally been an unspoken issue, often linked to feelings of shame and misunderstanding so it’s important that we all work together to remove that stigma.
“Those involved in this event are doing more than sharing their single message, they are playing a part in achieving the larger goal of creating a resilient community that listens and supports those living with mental health issues.
“The more people who chalk about their experiences, the more people we can inspire to seek the help they need to improve their lifestyles and potentially, save their lives.”
The team will be handing out chalk in front of Strand Park until 3pm.
selectability is encouraging the community to join them to ‘chalk’ about mental health on Saturday 4 September.
